SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Charley Hoffman will compete in his 18th consecutive WM Phoenix Open this week.
He stands out in the green shirts and golf gloves as he is sponsored by WM, the tournament’s title sponsor.
But do you know what Hoffman’s nickname is? And do you know how he got it?
Four years ago, he joined the show “Gravy and the Sleeze” on SiriusXM, co-hosted by Colt Knost, to get into the details.
“I accepted it. I embrace the term seagull as a nickname and it sucks because Colt eventually heard about it and didn’t let it go,” Hoffman joked.
Then he got into the origin story.
Do @hoffman_charley have the most appropriate nickname in golf? @ColtKnost And @thesleezyman think he has a strong case. Watch Charley’s explanation of why he is known as Seagull. pic.twitter.com/pX6ZwhYN47
